Nassau County is two different places for a roofer. On Amelia Island and around Yulee, salt air and new construction set the terms. West of I-95, around Callahan, Hilliard and Bryceville, it is rural homes, metal roofs and long drives between jobs.

Roofing work in Nassau County, FL runs from Fernandina Beach and Amelia Island through Yulee and Wildlight to Callahan, Hilliard and Bryceville. Coastal homes need salt-rated metal and fasteners, the growing Yulee area is mostly newer shingle roofs, and rural homes in the west often carry metal. Fernandina Beach issues its own permits; most other addresses go through the county.
Roofs in Nassau County
Around Yulee and along the A1A corridor, the county has added thousands of homes in the last two decades, including the Wildlight community near I-95. Those are mostly architectural shingle roofs that are still young, so the calls are storm repairs, leaks at flashing and insurance inspections rather than reroofs.
West of I-95 the county is rural, and roofs are older and more varied: ranch homes on their second roof, metal on farmhouses and outbuildings, and manufactured homes in Callahan, Hilliard and Bryceville that suit a membrane or metal roof-over. On Amelia Island, metal and tile hold up better against salt than a standard shingle, which is why we talk about materials before price on the island; see metal roof installation.

Permits
Inside Fernandina Beach city limits, the city's building department issues roof permits, and homes in its historic district also go through the city's Historic District Council; that is covered on roofing in Fernandina Beach. In Yulee, Nassauville and the rest of unincorporated Nassau County, the county's building department issues the permit. If an address sits inside a town limit, we confirm the right office before the job is priced.

Weather
On Amelia Island, salt spray reaches well past the dunes and corrodes the wrong nails and edge metal within a few years, so we specify stainless or coated fasteners and aluminum or coated steel trim. Inland, the risk is the same afternoon thunderstorms and tropical systems as the rest of Northeast Florida, with pine limbs over roofs in the wooded west of the county.
