Shingle repair for Jacksonville roofs

Updated September 2026

Most shingle roofs do not need replacing when a few shingles go. They need the damaged ones replaced properly, the neighbors resealed, and the ridge checked before the next storm finds the same weakness.

Shingle Roof Repair, Jacksonville
In short

Shingle roof repair in Jacksonville, FL replaces missing, creased or broken shingles with the closest matching product, reseals lifted shingles, and rebuilds damaged ridge caps, nailed to the manufacturer's high-wind pattern. It suits roofs with local damage and years of life left; when damage is spread across every slope, replacement is usually the better value.

Small damage, real risk

Why one missing shingle is worth a call

A missing shingle exposes the underlayment and the nails of the course below it. Underlayment sheds some rain for a while, but Florida sun degrades it and wind-driven rain gets behind it. The neighboring shingles, now without the one that held their edges down, are the next to lift.

A proper repair lifts the course above, removes the nails, slides in the new shingle and nails it in the right place, then reseals the shingles around it. Done that way, the repair holds; done with a dab of roof cement on top, it lasts until the next storm.

Missing and blown-off shingle replacement

Blown-off shingles usually go from the edges and ridge first. We replace each missing piece with the closest current product in color and profile, set the nails in the manufacturer's nailing zone, and hand-seal the new shingle and its neighbors so they bond without waiting for a hot day. Loose pieces in the gutters or yard tell us which slopes lost material.

Where a whole row is gone, the underlayment beneath is checked and replaced before new shingles go down.

Lifted and creased shingle repair

Creased shingle tab with a broken seal strip after high wind

A shingle that lifted in wind and fell back may look fine from the ground but carry a crease across it and a broken seal strip. Creased shingles break off in the next storm, so we replace them rather than glue them down. Shingles that lifted without creasing are resealed with a compatible sealant under the tab.

We check the whole slope for creases, not just the area around a missing shingle, because wind damage rarely stops at one piece.

Ridge cap repair

Ridge caps take more wind than any other shingles on the roof, and they fail first. Cracked or missing caps expose the ridge vent or the deck slot below. We replace them with matching ridge cap shingles, nailed at the correct exposure and sealed, and check the ridge vent beneath for damage while it is open.

Hip caps get the same treatment, and a cracked ridge vent found under the caps is replaced while they are off, since that is the cheapest moment to do it.

Algae-worn and granule-bare areas

Dark streaks on a Jacksonville roof are usually algae, which is mostly cosmetic but holds moisture on shaded slopes. Bare patches where the granules have worn away are more serious: the asphalt underneath is exposed to sun and starts to crack. Small worn areas, often under a downspout from an upper roof or in a valley, can be replaced with new shingles.

When granule loss is spread across the roof, it is a sign of age, and replacement is the honest recommendation.

Shingle roofs and Jacksonville storms

Shingle repairs are the most common roof repair in Jacksonville because shingle is the most common roof: one large local roofer reports that 82 percent of its installs are asphalt shingle. The storms that damage them need not be direct hits. During Hurricane Milton in October 2024 the Weather Service recorded a 61 mph gust at Naval Station Mayport and a large tree down in Mandarin, far from where the storm came ashore, and that kind of wind creases shingles across a whole slope.
